A family establishment

Philip Rachinger was born in 1989, the son of chef Helmut Rachinger, co-owner of the Muhltalhof in Neufelden, Upper Austria – a hotel and restaurant in the family for six generations. He trained at the tourism school in Bad Ischl and worked for two years at the Steirereck in Pogusch and Vienna.

International experience

Rachinger then went to London, cooking at Sketch under Pierre Gagnaire and as sous chef for Isaac McHale at the Clove Club, before moving to Paris to work for Sven Chartier at Saturne. At the end of 2013 he returned to Austria, initially as co-head chef alongside his father.

Two stars at Ois

Since 2018 Philip has been head chef at the Muhltalhof. In 2025 his fine-dining restaurant Ois was awarded two Michelin stars for a cuisine characterised by intensive, skilfully combined aromas. He is also a member of the Healthy Boy Band collective with Lukas Mraz and Felix Schellhorn.

Signature style

Rachinger’s philosophy centres on authentic local products, which he deconstructs, reduces to essentials and reinterprets in refined ways. Built on intensive personal relationships with small regional producers, his experimental cuisine is one of the most distinctive in Austria.
